Fun and Belief Magnetized: Motivating the Mathematically Challenged
This interactive workshop includes provoking questions, theory, discussion, and activities centered about motivation and higher thinking. Participants will take away ideas, tips, and tools for immediate use that’ll energize their classrooms and facilitate the development of students who believe in their abilities and evolve into better thinkers and learners.
Speaker Bio: Damon Givehand received his Master’s of Science in Mathematics Education and Methods of Instruction from Nova Southeastern University. He began his teaching career on the secondary level where he taught courses ranging from basic consumer math up through AP Calculus AB and BC. His path has since given him significant experience teaching with higher ed and career colleges, on-ground, online, and in hybrid settings. Damon’s passion is in student engagement, motivation, and retention, especially as these relate to math and college success courses. Damon now finds himself as part of an awesome and dynamic team of consultants with Cengage Learning’s TeamUP Faculty Programs.

Ignite Event Debut begins at 7:00pm
Description: "Enlighten Us But Make It Quick!" Enlightenment in just five minutes? You bet! A dozen of your colleagues will tell you what they are passionate about, and they each have exactly five minutes to do it. An Ignite presentation follows a strict rule: the speaker must use exactly twenty PowerPoint slides that advance automatically every fifteen seconds. It gets pretty frenetic sometimes, but it is just the ticket in this era of instant gratification. You’ll be enlightened and entertained!
