Call for Speakers for Fall Miniconference

If you are interested in speaking or being a member of a panel discussion at the Fall 2010 Miniconference, please fill out this form and click Submit Form.

Deadline for submission is July 31, 2010.

There are two presentation time slots, morning (10:30-11:30) and afternoon (12:30-1:30). There are three presentation options:

  1. Single Presentation (morning or afternoon)
  2. Double Presentation (morning and afternoon)
  3. Member of a panel discussion

Geometry in the college classroom. Subtopics include:

  • Should geometry be offered as a stand-alone course at the two-year college level?
  • How rigorous should be the proofs, if any? Should proofs be the standard two-column form or in paragraph form?
  • Should constructions be a necessary part of the curriculum?
  • Is an online geometry course appropriate?
  • My thoughts on these subtopics (please limit to 100 words)

Trigonometry as a stand-alone college course. Subtopics include:
  • Which should come first, triangle trigonometry or non-unit circle trigonometry?
  • Should calculators be introduced early or late?
  • Should the emphasis be more on understanding trigonometry or on applications?
  • My thoughts on these subtopics (please limit to 100 words)
